After spending much of my time in Harlem, New York City, I was deeply inspired by the vibrant street culture-the lively conversations on stoops during summer and the profound role music played in everyday life. This dynamic energy isn't just a hallmark of Harlem; it has shaped global street style, resonating from Berlin to Tokyo. Watching the Olympics this summer, I was struck by how breakdancing and street fashion, with their roots in African American culture, have permeated sports like skateboarding and surfing. I've always admired the enduring appeal of brands like Vans, whose iconic checkerboard motif has become a powerful symbol of subculture. For these images, I experimented with the iconic checkerboard pattern of classic Vans shoes, blending it with the influence of street style.
